Cassius Clay Signed Card Compliments of the Louisville Sponsoring Group
Cut signature three time heavyweight boxing champion Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). Clay has inscribed the small sheet of paper (4.75 x 3 inches), "From Cassius Clay," in blue ink. The stamped notation "Compliments of the/Louisville Sponsoring Group" appears along the top border. The Louisville Sponsoring Group, made up of prominent Louisville businessmen, signed Cassius Clay to his first professional contract in 1960 and acted as his agent during his early career. All "Cassius Clay" signatures are both rare and highly desirable, as it was only days after his defeat of Sonny Liston in February 1964, that Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali. This is a particularly early Clay signature and the fact that it was distributed by his first management group only adds to its appeal.
Gary has 5 of these extremely rare pieces in his collection.
